These simple devices were in essence – Dart Throwers. Made of wood, bone and stone – The Hulche was also very similar to The Atzlan Arrow Thrower. Darts (roughly 5 to 8 inches longs), were placed into a slotted groove which ran the length of the Hulche shaft. Held in place by finger placement, an overhand motion was used to “launch” the Dart forward. The Dart was very accurate, with modern reproductions showing accuracy of hits from 150 feet. The Hulche Dart was often dipped in a neurotoxin. Whole Ranks of Mayan Soldiers would have been deployed as a type of Melee Troop in battle.
