Created around the mid-16th Century, a Lord-Lieutenant was a position created by a King or Queen. A Nobleman, it was his job to represent “Royal interest and oversight” within various Counties in the Realm. Each County was assigned one. Eventually, the Lord-Lieutenant replaced the High Sheriff (in his military duties). He also became “Custodian of The Rolls” (and maintained proper Tax Record). The Lord-Lieutenant would become the Head of The County with regards to Royalty. They could install Justice's of The Peace and other important positions. They can also select a “Vice” Lord-Lieutenant to assist them.
