Similar in theory to the European Sabaton (or Armored Shoe), Kogake Plating was used in much the same way. Either a single or multi-plated iron covering was shaped and placed over the foot of the soldier. The Kogake was then tied into place with striped of rope. Simple and yet effective. Designs go back to the 8th Century.
