Long seen as the “pinnacle” of Heraldic Beasts (seconded only by The Eagle, Lion and Dragon) – this mythical Beast is ancient in origin. The creature imparts different meaning (depending on the Country). Seen around the 12th Century, The Griffin can impart “Fierceness”, “Determination” - as well as a litany of other traits and attributes. Often colored in Gold and Yellow tones, The Griffin is also a very popular Branding image. Some Armorers used the Beast and their Logo (as did Book Sellers in the 16th Century). They can be used as Charges (and are rarely seen as Supporters).
