This .54 caliber rifle was the standard weapon for most of The Germanic Nations of the mid-19th Century. It was the percussion replacement to the Model 1777 Flintlock rifle (in use up to that date). A Carbine and Pistol version were also developed (and all 3 types were favored by the elite Jager Rifle Regiments). Noted for it's innovated “Quadrant Sighting Device”, The Model 1857 weighed around 9-pounds and was around 40-inches long. It had an effective range of 1,000 yards (with a maximum of 1,250 yards). Some 70,000 Model 1857 Rifles were produced up to 1868.
