The ''Gneisenau'' was a German Battleship (actually classed a ''Battlecruiser'' by The Allies) – was was built in 1935 in violation of The Treaty of Versailles (WWI). (3) such Class Warships were built for the eventual German Naval War effort. A ''Raider'' in The North Atlantic, ''Gneisenau'' survived several sinking attempts by The British Naval Submarine Fleet. No longer ''viable'' by 1942, She was purposely sunk by The German Navy off Poland and used as a ''Blockship'' (stationary fighting position) in a River Outlet. She was scrapped officially in 1951. The ''Gneisenau'' displaced 32,000-tons and stood (Beam) at 100-feet. She was 750-feet long with a Crew of 1,600 Officers and Men. Her propulsion came from Twin Steam Turbines and could achieve 36-mph. Armament was (9) 11-inch Main Guns, (12) 6-inch Guns, (14) 4-inch Guns, (16) 1-inch AA Guns and support for (6) 21-inch Torpedoes.
