The so-named ''German Battalion'' was a Military Formation raised in support of The American Revolution, in 1776. The Regiment was composed of German immigrants recruited fro Pennsylvania and Maryland. They mustered into The Continental Army with (8) Companies (600 Officers and Men). The Regiment fought in (7) major War battles to include Brandywine and Germantown (both in 1777).

The German Regiment was one of the Units who survived the harsh winter at Valley Forge, when much of The Continental Army deserted. The German Regiment lost none of it's ranks to desertion. Later in The War, with dwindling numbers due to casualties, The German Battalion would be merged into The New Jersey Brigade and remain until disbanded in 1781.
