Originating in the mid-Middle Ages, the title Furst developed from The Holy Roman Empire. The Emperor would install a Furst to govern over “Imperial Kingdoms”. These rulers were solely responsible to The Emperor. A Furst was usually the highest of Nobility in the Region. Females could also be given the title as “Furstinnen”. A Furst was referred to as “Serene Highness”.
