The 13th Century La Chapelle Bombard was of French origin. An early and primitive Field piece, it was a highly successful weapon used in sieges. The La Chapelle fired a “Stone” Ball weighing 130-pounds over 1,300 yards. Weighing at 1,000 pounds, The Chapelle was another “in place” pieces that had to be mounted in a pre-determined position prior to firing. The Bombard required a crew of 4 to 6 Gunners.
