A large number of Scottish Volunteers fought on both sides during The English Civil Wars. One that was loyal to King Charles, were The “Scottish Covenanters”. At one point they number 2,000 (arranged in 5 Regiments). Their Regimental Flag was the Light Blue Field indicative of The Kingdom of Scotland. A White Cross of St. Andrews bisected the entirety of The Field. Centered in the Cross was (5) Red Roses, alluding to The War of The Roses and King Charles “rightful” place on The Throne. In each Cross Section, various phrases were placed to instill the martial “spirit” of The Covenanters. These were “For Religion, King and Kingdom”.
