Based on the War version of The Rapier, The Espada Ropera Sword was specifically designed for civilian use arounf the 15th Century. The blade was designed to be much more thinner and flexible. Weighing in as 2 pounds, the blade was around 44-inches long. Double-edged and very sharp, The Ropera was ideal for self-protection and Dueling. They were often more elaborate in design and decoration. Some versions were carried in felt covered scabbards. The name is translated into “Dress Sword”. Blades were roughly 1.5 to 2-inches in width. Also a cutting weapon, it was best used as a thrusting and stabbing device.
