The primary weapon of The Egyptian Army from The Old to New Kingdom Dynasties – the standard Infantry Spear was constructed of a 6 foot wooden shaft. The wood would be heat treated (exposed to fire) – as a hardening method. Bronze or Copper Spear Heads would be fitted onto the top end of the shaft. The Spear Heads stayed around 5 to 6 inches in length and 1.5 to 2.5 inches in width. They were used both as close quarters (hand to hand) weapons and could also be thrown. A Soldier would typically carry 3 (attached to the inside of their War Shield).
