This was a form of protective armor plating designed to protect the wearers thighs. Similar to Tassets, the Cuisses was a larger piece of metal designed to protect the entirety of the thigh (as one piece). A common piece of armor for a 12th and 13th Century Knight, they were segmented (for mobility). Connected by hinging, often Poleyns (knee protection) were incorporated into them. Some versions were known to be made of hard (or boiled leather). They covered a goof percentage of the rear thigh as well.
