Dating to at least the 7th Century AD – the Heraldic symbol known as The Cross Potent is still recognizable by most. The image is most associated with it's variant known as The Jerusalem Cross, the image is described as a traditional Christian Cross with top bars (caps) on each cross arm extension. The Cross Potent was a common symbol found on coinage of The Eastern (Byzantine) Empire, and would remain as a Heraldic image from the 10th Century to 13th Centuries throughout Europe. Many Noble Knights had The Cross Potent incorporated into their Family Arms – in particular those Knights that had fought in the various Crusades of The Middle East.
