These were hastily constructed, semi-circular emplacements, built around an artillery position. Often made of raised earth, they were designed to protect the proximity of the Cannon piece involved. If time was not an option, often Crews would reinforce the inside of the berm with wood. Often lines of Coupure's were strung together.
