A Military formation of The Roman Republic and carried on through Imperial Roman – The term Contubernium is applied to the lowest numerical form of a Roman Military Unit. This was (8) Soldiers (Legionnaires). Commanded by the previously described ''Decanus'', this would be the equivalent to today's ''Squad'' within an Army. Ten such Contubernium were formed into ''Centuria''. The Contubernium had (2) Slaves (trained as Carpenters. They provided water to The ''Squad'' and served other functions.
