Never adopted (but considered), this Flag was originally proposed for use as the first Official National Colors of the newly formed Confederate States of America. Unclear as to the actual designer, it is thought to have been a “Lady of French descent”. Her idea was a Red Field with 10 Blue Stars arranged in a circular pattern. In the center, was a larger Blue Star. It has been speculated that The Independence Flag may have been flown along with “The Bonnie Blue Flag” at The Confederate Convention in 1860. Why it was not chosen is equally unclear. It is known to have not been used in actual battle.
