Confederate 4th Georgia Infantry Regiment

Also known as The ''Sumter Light Guards'', The 4^th Georgia Infantry Regiment was formed during the early days of The American Civil war – for service with The Confederate Army (1861). (9) Companies were formed totaling 900 Officers and Men. The Regiment was detached to The Army of Georgia for 6-months before being assigned to The army of Northern Virginia, under General Robert E. Lee. Fighting at such memorable battles such as Malvern Hill (Virginia), Chancellorsville (Virginia) and several other engagements, before the debacle of Gettysburg (1863). The 4^th lost 70% casualties as a result. The regiment would remain with The Army of Northern Virginia, until it surrendered at Appomattox in 1865 with roughly 100 Officers and Men surviving.
