Formed to support The Confederacy during The American Civil War of 1861-65, The 2nd South Carolina Artillery (Light), consisted of (4) Batteries of Artillery (28 Guns). The primary mission of The 2nd was to man and defend the myriad of both Harbor (Land) and Sea Forts, around and inside Charleston Harbor. The Unit would be deployed as an Infantry Regiment in early 1865, due to lack of replacements for The Army of Tennessee. They retained their ''Artillery'' designation nonetheless. Their first (and last) battle was during The North Carolina Campaign (August, 1865). The 2nd surrendered with General Joseph Johnson's Army (1865). The casualties were light for The 2nd, who mustered out only (18) killed and wounded. In addition to retaining their Artillery Uniform (Grey with Red piping), The 2nd also maintained their Battery Colors of Red and Black (Guidon), while serving as Infantry.
