Confederate 1st Naval Ensign

The official CS Naval Ensign (or Jack), was designed in 1861. It was a rectangular flag, roughly 4 foot by 3 foot. It featured a solid blue background with 7 white stars arranged in a circle – mounted in the center. This Ensign was “added to” as subsequent “States” joined The Confederacy. A 2nd Naval Ensign based on The Stars and Bars was also used. It was replaced in 1863 by The 2nd Design.
