This whip weapon dates to 7th Century (Tang Dynasty). In essence, it was a slender knife like weapon connected to a rope. Upon reaching the desired range, the knife would be thrown into an enemy. Upon inflicting damage (or death), the knife could be quickly pulled back (and caught). The rope was often covered in wax to minimize friction. Although not a popular combat weapon it was documented in use in several battles. Blades ranged in size from 6 to 8 inches. Rope lengths too varied at 6 to 8 feet. The Rope Dart was considered a close quarters weapon.
