Deployed in 1942, The Mark I ''Bishop'' was a Self Propelled Gun capable of firing High Explosive, Armor Piercing Shells (25-Pound). They were designed to counter The Heavier German Panzer Tanks during The North Africa Campaign (1942-1944). Light, The “Bishop” weighed 17-Tons and was 17-feet long. A variety of Light Tank Chassis were used. The tall Armor protected Firing Platform featured 2-Inches of Plating. A Twin Tracked Vehicle, it was Crewed by (4) Men. The ''Bishop was Diesel powered and could make 15-miles per hour. Moderately effective in The Desert War, over 140 were produced. They would be replaced for Service after 1944 for more powerful Self-Propelled Weapons.
