Built in Lomma, Scania, Sweden – Borgeby Castle dates from the 11th Century. It may have been commissioned by King Harald Bluetooth. Originally featuring a Bregfield-type of central Tower, the entirety of the defensive structure had a 8 foot thick wall. This wall was installed on a raised “Vauban Style” earthwork – featuring Crown Work extensions. A large 40 foot deep Wet Moat system was also installed. Featuring interior support buildings (Bakery, Armory and Mills), Borgeby Castle was added to (and taken away from) many times during renovations between the 15th to 18th Centuries. Attacked by The Danes in 1462, the majority of Borgeby was burned down. A “Farmer's Revolt” several decades may have finished any remaining builds. Partial restoration of the Central Keep/Manor House was begun in 1886. It now serves as a Museum.
