A variation of Chain Shot, Bar Shot was seen in the 17th Century. Bar Shot was normally two to three pound iron Round Shots – connected by an iron bar (roughly 1 foot long). When fired (in theory), the projectile was supposed to spin, thus creating maximum damage to a ship's sail, rigging (and of course, personnel). More often than not, The Bar Shot sailed “vertically” (again achieving some of the desired effects). Bar Shot lasted somewhat longer than Chain Shot did – seen still in use in the late 18th Century.
