Bannerolls were small Banners (stiffened), and used at Noble Family Funerals. On The Banneroll were miniature Coats of Arms of all other Family members (immediate and removed), associated with the “deceased”. The Banneroll was prominently displayed – either over the body or coffin of the deceased, as well as nearby the body. It is thought that the tradition of a Funerary Wreath developed from The Banneroll.
