Badges were Armorial Devices that were not part of one's Coat of Arms. There are 3 classifications of usage: Livery, Official and Corporate. Bestowed by Royalty, they could also be used to denote a member of an Royal Household (Relative). Knights issued such would wear them on their Armor to show “Personal Favor”. They were originated around the 14th Century.
