A standard Aztec War Knife, The Tecpatl Dagger was “dedicated” to the Aztec God Xiuhtecuhtli. Used originally to dispatch Prisoners (Sacrificial Victims) – it was possible carried by “Fighting Priests” and Holy Men – into battle. Made of thick obsidian rock, it was flaked to razor sharp perfection on both sides of the “blade”. Often, highly decorated and elaborate handles were attached. They were made of wood, stone and precious jewels. They were carried in crude scabbards and varied from 14 to 16-inches in blade length.
