Developed late in The War, The Aviatik D1 Fighter was a single-seat, 22 foot long Bi-plane. It had a 26 foot wingspan and was capable of an airspeed of 115 mph. Armed with twin Schwarzlose Machine Guns, it had an operational ceiling of 18,500 feet. Noted for it's thin wings and heavy fusilage, The D1 had numerous design faults. Engine overheating as a result in dives (air combat), as well as structural weakness - made The D1 unpopular with Imperial German Allies. Nonetheless, it had an excellent ascent capability. Only 700 were made.
