An attack stance from which a Swordsman could employ many other Guards or Feints, The Long Guard was deployed by positioning the Right Leg rearward to stabilize the weight of the body. The Left Leg was positioned outward to provide balance. The Sword was fully extended outwards, as in a High Lunge. However, the Long Guard (while resembling a Lunge), provided a Swordsman with the ability to Feint or counter any advance.
