Seen in the 19th Century primarily, Arms of Expectation were used by Noble women on their Arms, to convey possible marriage to a male Arms Holder. The woman's Shield was moved to the far left of “The Sinister” (so as to make room for her intended husbands Arms). Often, if a woman did not marry, she would leave the Arms in this placement. In this form, a woman was looked upon as an “Old Maid” who never married.
