Argentinian “Naval” Officer (or rather Privateer) Hippolyte de Boucharda and 2 Argentinian Warships “attacked” Monterey, California in 1818. Argentina was at “War” with Spain and (knowing of the riches of their California Colony), it made sense to attack. The Raiding Party shelling the seaside Town and sent a “landing detachment” against several local Missions (looking for Gold mostly). Argentina “claimed” that they supported “local Mexican Colonists in their war for independence”. The Argentina Flag flown over Monterey is a 3-Striped Field of Light Blue, White and Light Blue. Later in the year (1818), the Royal Seal was be added (and remains to this day).
