The tradition of giving ''Apostle Spoons'' dates to the 15th Century AD – and was popular in both England and Germany. Normally commissioned in sets of 12 or 13, each Silver Spoon was given to wealthy persons as Baptismal gifts to newborn Children and Families. The primary design of The spoons featured the image of a New Testament Apostle (Disciple of Christ). The so called ''Master Spoon'' was featured as Jesus Christ. In addition, the particular attribute (symbolism), used to identify each image was also engraved. By example, Judas had a ''bag of coins'', Batholomew a knife (His Martyrdom weapon), etc. Lasting until the Great Reformation, Apostle Spoons would still remain a popular gift in England until the 1660s.
