Another ancient form of symbolism, The Anchor did Not always have “nautical” meaning. It could symbolize a “rock solid determination” (or “steadfastness”). It is always portrayed in a natural positioning (Anchor down). It was obviously used in Sailing Arms (denoting much of the same meaning as the “Landed” version). By the end of the 15th Century, The Anchor was exclusive to Sea use and Service.
