Another iconic and well-known Revolutionary War Flag, it “vied” in popularity with The Gadsden “Don't Tread On Me” Flag. The Culpeper (Virginia) Minutemen were formed by Patriot and Firebrand Patrick Henry in 1775 (as The 1st Virginia Regiment). Noted for their “Buckskin” clothing and Frontiersmen weapons of knives and tomahawks – the 300-odd detachment were said to be “fiercesome” in appearance. Many were “Indian Fighters” and many reportedly had “Scalps” attached to their belts! (promising to to the same to any British soldiers they encountered!). Their Flag was a White Field (in entirety), with Black lined imagery of a coiled Rattlesnake. The Unit identifier was placed in a Banneroll above with the oft-said “political” phrases “GIVE ME LIBERTY OR DEATH” and “DON'T TREAD ON ME” similarly added.
