Raised in 1775 in support of The American Revolutionary War, The 3rd New York Regiment of Infantry was one of the early Regiments that only volunteered for 1 year. During this period, they did not actively participate in The War, but served as a Garrison Force within The Colony. When re-formed under a longer Service Contract, The 3rd would participate in The Invasion of Canada (which was a failure). They would however manage to stop further British incursions into New York, and would later fight in several major battles.  Their Colors were a Blue Field with The Colonial Seal of New York (an early version). No other embellishments were used. The Flag of The 3rd is also the only Revolutionary War Flag used by State Forces that was preserved and exists today in a Museum.
