Assigned to The 2nd Rhode Island Militia, The “Hope” Flag was a later flag used in 1781. Although Rhode Island did participate in most of the early Revolutionary War battles – they did not officially form their own Regiments until quite late in The War. The Anchor symbol and the phrase “Hope” were traditional Rhode Island insignia since 1647. The Colors of The “Hope” Regiment (as they were seen), was a White Field with a Blue upper left Canton Inside the Canton was 13-Gold Stars (representative of The 13-Colonies). The Center of their colors featured a Blue Anchor with the Banneroll phrase of “Hope”.
