A Mythos of many South Pacific Islander Cultures – The ''Taotao Mona'' were ''Guardian Spirits'' of Nature. Their name translates to ''They Who Were Here Before''. Said to have been the inhabitants of many Islands ''before Man'', they became ''God-Spirits''. The Taotao Mona are always present, perceived as Banyan Trees (as their disguise). They will cause calamity to those who harm Nature (plants and animals without cause or need). The Mona ''move'' at nighttime and appear (again as stands of Banyan) ''magically'' elsewhere on any particular Island they choose.
