An Ancient Japanese Folk Tale – The Sankai was said to be a Yokai (Spirit), that affect unborn fetus. It was widely accepted, that IF an excepting Mother failed to properly care for Herself, Her ''birth'' would be born ''deformed or mutated''. This mutation was the Spirit or Sankai. So ''born'', these creatures were a burden on the Family. Often, they were disposed of rather than letting them live. Certain factor were used to determine IF a Mother was at risk for giving birth to a Sankai. Poor sleeping and eating habits, riding of horses, all were seen as contributing factors.
