Nkondi

The ''Nkondi'' are Fetish Idols indicative to several African Congo Tribes. These icons have been used for centuries as means to protect One from Demons and Witchcraft (in particular Evil spells). They are made of wood (later metal) and are often Human in appearance and designed to be ''aggressive'' in stance and perception. Often, The Nkondi carry weapons (Swords and Spears). The Figures (often made in pairs), are meant to ''engage'' such Evils. They are kept in Huts or sometimes larger versions are erected in a Village proper. Another feature of The Nkondi was that a space was provided where the Icon's ''belly'' is located. Into this cavity was placed various Herbs needed to combat Witchcraft.
