From The Hindu Partheon of Mythology – Mariamman was seen as The Goddess of Rain. In addition to the weather phenomenon, She is invoked as a Healer of Illness. In Autumn – the months relating to Her Celebration, She is called upon to heal Cholera, Smallpox and Chickenpox. It is said that by collecting the rain generated during Her Feast, it can be used as a salve or drink – to cure the particular malady.
