Long seen in Judeo-Christian culture as the Adversary of God, Lucifer is seen as the basis of anti- against all that is good in many World Cultures. Known by many names and guises, Lucifer's actual biblical origins are vague. Most of Lucifer's back story came from 19th Century Writer John Milton's novel Paradise Lost . In it, we see Lucifer (Angel of Light), revolting against Gods Authority in Heaven. Recruiting a group of like-minded Angels, Lucifer plans an all-out battle to usurp God. God also has an Army (led by The archangel Michael) and defeats Lucifer and his army. Banishes from Heaven (to Earth), Lucifer was said to utter the immortal line It is far better to Rule in Hell, than serve in Heaven! . Earth was likened to Hades, ergo God gave the recently fallen (as they are known), dominion over such. Only Man's free will (a choice) separates Lucifer from God.

Self tasked with indulging Man in all his perversions and vices , Lucifer (or Satan) has been a major plot device for centuries of Writers and a source material for scores of Painters. Often shown in an exaggerated form of a red skinned, horned humanoid Lucifer is also shown as a Goatman. In the Medieval Era, (much as with the Hell Mouth theory), The Chruch wished to portray Lucifer as evil and frightening as possible. It gave Painters and Writer specific leeway to create the more known version of Old Scratch . Lucifer is the primary Commander of all of Hell's Legions (or Demonic Armies). He has subordinate Commanders under him (each serving a different vice). As is commonly misrepresented in much fiction, Lucifer himself does NOT possess humans (but allows his Demons and subordinates do so).
