Hawaiian Mythos states that The Kupua are a class of (12) Spiritual Entities, associated with both Good and Evil situations in that Culture. In the cases of Evil, they react much as the common Western perception of ''Spiritual Possession'' – with regards to ''taking over a weak Soul''. A Person so ''afflicted'', with act much different than they normally would (causing others to believe that they are possessed by a Kupua). Long term possession will result in death (often by means of perceived natural causes). Good Kupua often cause ''good feelings'' and ''helpfulness'' towards others.
