From Scandinavian and Old English Myths, The ''Elder Mother'' was an Elemental Spirit of Nature that guarded older Trees from harm. By tradition, a Woodsman needed to seek out Elder Mother and ask permission for which Tree He could cut down. Failure to seek out ''Her'' guidance, would find extremely bad luck befalling The Woodsman. It is said that Storms and Lighting would never strike an Elder Mother. In a related vein, gathering the fallen twigs from an Elder Mother Tree and boiling them down in hot water would provide a cure for several maladies (most associated with Old Age.
