Seen as one of the first examples by ''Science'' to attempt to classify strange and unknown species (Cryptids) – The ''Animalia Paradoxa'' compiled by Carl Linnaeus in 1748. The work took many reports – stretching back in some cases thousands of years, and attempted to cross reference them with known or recently discovered animals. It was assumed that in Ancient Times, many of the reports of ''fantastic creatures'' may have really been incorrect identifications. The Paradoxa would remain a staple in Cryptology for nearly 200 years.
