Stronghold 2 Tutorial for games starting as a freeman

Recommended Posts

Hi. This is a video I recently made. Today I was editing it, because I was called on my phone at some moment. I wanted to cut that part.

I hope this will help those who find it easier to play starting with 5000 gold or more. It's a short 25 minutes video. There's nothing exciting to see in the video, but I hope it's going to be helpful.

The video turned out to be low quality, so I will try to convert it again, and re-upload it. Hopefully I would turn out to be better after uploading.

It's a good video Eagle. Little advice, make sure you don't render higher than what your recorded resolution was. I'm not sure if that's the reason the video is blurry slightly but if so, make sure you render in the native resolution.?

For example, if you play and record in 1080p, render in 1080p. If you play and record in 480p don't render it in 720p, the video will have to be upscaled and it'll seem "stretched" :)

Nice video. Pity I can't find Stronghold 2 for Mac because that was some nice advice you showed.

Although at one point it sounded like someone was running a weed-whacker in the background from 1:21 :P

Yes, I did have issues with that... The thing is that while I was recording my phone rang - it was my mom, she wanted me to bring in laundry, as it was about to rain. :D I paused the game when it rang, and I continued with the video, but later when I wanted to crop this peace out, I actually needed to convert the video. I don't know any other way, I just believe that's how it works - I cannot simply crop, but cropping requires converting - even if it is to the very same video format. I was doing it with Format Factory. The first version was even more blurry. I should also say that after converting it's not blurry on my PC, but for some reason YouTube made it like this. In the first video which I removed 360p was the best quality offered to the viewer.

Haha, if I am not mistaken, that's the sound of my PC in one moment. :D

Thanks for your compliments, guys! :)

Oh, and by the way, I'm afraid that there doesn't exist a mac version of Stronghold 2. :( There may be ways to make it running on a mac, but I don't know much about that. In fact, I know nothing about mac - like John Snow. :)

Yeah, it seems not many games come out for Mac computers. I was happy to see they at least did the HD versions of Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader for Mac, so I can have some nostalgic fun with them. :)

If you ever decide to make some tutorial videos for either of those games I'll keep an eye out.

Sure, I could do it for Stronghold Crusader once. :) I'm way better in that game, though we play it differently when we have no rush period, and when we play skirmish games. Firstly I made this video, because I couldn't find one for Stronghold 2 like this myself. There are some videos, but they are mostly for when a player starts with 5,000 gold.

Also, what could be benefiting from my videos is that I tend to play for fun, and to build complete castles. I focus on both - economy and defenses, and I don't like using any exploits. There are certainly many "pro tutorials" for Stronghold Crusader, but there is no fun in playing like that. That's more about players wanting to be the best, which isn't good in my opinion.

What would you like to see first? Singleplayer or multiplayer?

Yeah I agree, those guys building massive castles that look like factories ringed with ballista towers may be a way to win, but it seems to take the fun out of it.

I don't really do multiplayer because I'm not sure how it works in Stronghold or Stronghold Crusader. :P?

I heard you need to have the IP of whoever is hosting the game or something.

Singleplayer tutorials would be nice. My siege "tactics" in that game tend to be terrible (maybe on par with the Rat :D) whenever I'm up against a fully built castle because I can never quite figure out how to build a stable economy that will provide me with more firepower. So maybe if you showed some basic tips on how to build an economy that can support a decent attacking army? I like Macemen a lot so if your video included how to use them properly that'd be nice.

Also anything that deals with the damn Caliph from Crusader would be a big help. That guy is a serious problem for me in that game. :D

Nice video, EaglePrince. I enjoyed it a lot (and it taught me quite a bit, too).

Also, you are getting pretty good at making videos :)

Yes, Narrikis, that is my main gripe with "professional" players as well. Where is that feeling of knights and lords, they might as well be factory directors :P
