Post your best memories of stronghold here

Recommended Posts

I think it's fair to say that for pretty much everyone here, we have all got some happy memory of Stronghold which makes us love it. These memories are in fact what make me love to play it because it is nice playing in that same atmosphere and having other people to revel in this nostalgia. I made this thread because I thought some people would like to share their best memories in any stronghold game. Mine is in Stronghold 2, and it has to be the mission where you take over Edwin's castle and you have to make sure that his economy survives. I think the main reason I still remember this is because it probably took me more time than every other level I played in SH2 combined to complete. It is also likely that I remember this because of how much it made me hate Edwin.

Just now saw this post and I'm surprised to see no replies.

I myself have a lot of memories about Stronghold 2, so here are some of them:

Castell y Bere

This map is a default siege map within Stronghold 2. The reason I remember it so well is because it's Welsh. I'm not sure how many of you have this problem but every game I play I have to set my country to United Kingdom because there is simply no option for Wales. Stronghold 2 actually recognises my country and made a full map about it? Wow! The map itself is also quite a nice siege mission for a new starter (when defending of course :P).

Multiplayer Event

This one is one @Lord_Chris will remember. A gaming event on Stronghold 2, which was meant to be 2v2, ended up with just Lord_Chris and I. We decided to do a 1v1 match. Lord_Chris had worked on his attacking army while I focused on my defences during peace time. By the time peace time was over we were stuck in a constant stale-mate. The map itself was a map where the only way to each others territory was by a number of different bridges. Lord_Chris was in fact in control of the majority of bridges but because I was defending my towers were preventing him getting any closer to my castle.

We went about for an hour sending troops after troops at the bridges in attempt to break through into each others territory. It just would not happen. Luckily for me, while Lord_Chris was on the brink of getting past the bridge due to me running low on weapons to train strong troops, I noticed one of the bridges weren't guarded because Lord_Chris had moved his knight over to another bridge earlier on to prevent me entering his base by outnumbering him. I quickly recruited a few assassins and send them over the bridge. Just as Lord_Chris broke through my first layer of wall, my assassins were on his keep.

Was by far the best battle I had. Lord_Chris did manage to get his revenge in the next battle we had though, so we're even ;)

I like someone made a tread like this here. There is a similar one at Crusader 1 or Stronghold 1 forum, but we do have lots of good memories from Stronghold 2 as well.

Sadly, I don't have so much great memories from Campaign, as I let my brother win those - I was fighting economic missions, while he was dealing with enemies when he has an army - an army from the scenario, or an army I created. :)

Still, those are good memories - trying to prevail during massive enemy invasions and to build up an economy, and I remember playing many skirmish maps. I specially remember Baltic map, the position in south-west was my favorite in the beginning, while after some time I enjoyed the one in south-east as well, as one can find a lot of space in that estate. :) God, if I just had some more maps like those ones I found later on internet. :D

Yes, I remember this alright ;)

Speaking of good memories, this was probably one of the best battles I've ever had, it was a constant challenge to try and think ahead of you. It seems we're both quite well matched!

Years ago, with some realism, I have imagined and documented Sarum Castle — a formidable fortress along the North Norfolk Coast in England during the early 1400s fully sustained by its household and town. Key features which you can consider for your own castle: Concentric design: Two defensive layers around the keep, with moats, drawbridges and barbicans. Defensive tricks: Trebuchets, mangonels, ballistas, rolling logs, oil and stone tippers along different hidden traps and k

As the title says I don't know if I want to post on the Steam workshop anymore. Ever since March I've had people raging at me for how supposedly difficult or unfair my maps are. And ya know what? Alright that's fine. Haters gonna hate right? Now most of the maps I've seen on the SHL workshop are usually either some user map that requires players to spam troops or a skirmish map. To my surprise I actually found a map that looked like it would be decent play. I skimmed the thumbnail
