Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends at GameRanger

Recommended Posts

Hi, I wanted to inform you that we will be able to play Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends from now at GameRanger. This is what I saw when I started Gameranger today - the same news can be read at GameRanger news. :) Huray! :D

Well, this is certainly some excellent news! It's too bad I've finally installed my mods again though :/

We can certainly play SHL for a bit while I create a few maps and scenarios though. Speaking of which... http://forums.stronghold-nation.com/topic/157-stronghold-legends-8th-9th-14th-june/

I have to agree there, and in some ways, it's better than just the in-game multiplayer setup as if the game suddenly crashed you won't lose players.

Also, you are able to add up to 50 people to your friends, and this really helps when you want to start a multiplayer game. Especially if you play it for a while - then by some time you can have more people you know, and it's better to play with those people, than with some random guys.

You need to play via GameRanger still, regardless whether you're playing on LAN or not - or at least to my knowledge. GameSpy, which was the old service, has been shutdown so it won't allow you to play directly from Stronghold 2 anymore.

My problem is that I'm not always connected to the internet.

So I was hoping to find a way to play SHL & SH2 on lan.

If it is possible with gameranger, then show me how.

I appreciate your consideration. :)

I haven't played online for a while now, but you have to first connect using Game Ranger. After you've connected using Game Ranger, you may be able to go back out of the room and select the LAN option from there (if it's still there of course).

Note that you can add a password on GameRanger do that only certain people can access the game lobby - however, the actual connections made to each other have to be through GameRanger. Once that is done, Stronghold 2 will automatically be started, and it should load straight into a lobby room.

If the LAN option is not there, it is no longer available and you only have the option of playing online.

Can someone please give me a link to GameRanger so that I may install it (if it is even an application) , it would be much appreciated :)

I don't think this is necessarily true, I have been playing LAN with my friends when they come round and connect to my internet, and I hadn't even heard that the servers were shutting down, let alone having to install GameRanger. I am confused. :what:

GameRanger: http://www.gameranger.com/download/

Whenever I try to go into the multiplayer menu without going through GameRanger, my game crashes. Maybe it's just an instability, who knows...

You're not alone there. When I try to go into multiplayer menu, it doesn't crash, but I have to wait for a while, and after several minutes of sitting in front of computer it would say that multiplayer is unavailable or something like that. So, if I accidentally click on multiplayer, I have to wait, or to shut down the game, and run it again. :)

I have never seen an option for LAN in Stronghold 2, but maybe there is such an options, I'm not sure.

There are options for LAN although I'm not sure where on the interface :/

Right now I am scanning both my PC's, and I am unable to try it, but I will, and check it out. I think that when you hit the MULTIPLAYER button you are being directed to multiplayer lobby (powered by GameSpy) which doesn't work, and you can't do anything there. Then Chris's game crashes, while mine acts like I described...

I've just tried with a fresh install on my new operating system - the game is very slow but does load multiplayer. You can select the LAN option, though I'm not sure whether or not it will allow you to start an actual game through it as I haven't tried.

Years ago, with some realism, I have imagined and documented Sarum Castle — a formidable fortress along the North Norfolk Coast in England during the early 1400s fully sustained by its household and town.
