Armed peasants can now rise up against the enemy armed with a pitchfork. Unfortunately, they have had no military training and are extremely weak. Armed peasants are good for finding where the enemy has placed tricks and traps.
Peasants are the weakest unit in the game and require no weapons to train. They're relatively fast and can in large numbers be used to cheaply overwhelm enemy archers or siege equipment. Another use for peasants is as a distraction for enemy ranged units, in combination with archers or men-at-arms. Though one should still never forget that they're very weak in combat and extremely vulnerable to ranged attacks. If used, then armed peasants must always be deployed in large numbers.
