You can very simply create stone bridges by using the following method:

Place a fairly thick wall straight through a river
Put Castle Stairs at either end
Add battlements to the strucutre, and a few flags

It's as easy as that too! The only thing you need to do now is make sure that mounted troops can get through. Just ensure that one foot soldier is always accompanying the mounted units.
