Where to buy Stronghold 2?

Recommended Posts

Hi, as it is possible now to play Stronghold 2 in multiplayer now (at GameRanger), I wanted to ask you few questions...

One is, where would you suggest me to buy Stronghold 2? And the other thing is, is it possible to buy Stronghold 2, and use this same copy on two of my computers? Also, is it possible to have a miltiplayer game from both those computers at the same time?

Thanks in advance! Regards, EaglePrince.

I personally suggest you get it from amazon. The deluxe version is better as it has more functionality, and I would try to make sure you get a copy not on steam if you intend to modify it as steam just over-complicates things.

You can use the same copy of stronghold 2 on any computer - I have it installed on my windows 8, windows 7 and windows XP machines. You can connect via LAN or just with a password which stops other people from joining. All I do is load the game with the disc on one PC, then take it out and put it in another and load it from there.

Thanks! I will take a look at it there.

Also, is there an option to buy Stronghold 2, but not to wait for this delivery? So I could pay for it, and download the game (dvd image file, or the two cd image files) at the same time? I hope there is an option for this.

You can buy the stronghold collection off steam. Once bought, you can download the game any time you like.

Do note that this is all the games, not just SH2.

Although people do say Steam complicates things, this thing does seem better for me, but only if there was only Stronghold 2 alone. Or at least if there would be Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends in one pack.

If not, I will try to find in the store, where I bought some games before, in my city. If only they have it, or if they can order it for me.

Thanks for hep. :)

EDIT: Also, if I bought the game from Steam, would it then be possible to play in multiplayer from two PC's? Or, maybe I should ask my self, is it possible to install it at two PC's at all..? :/

If you feel that steam is better for you, then choose that option. My personal opinion shouldn't influence you there. The main thing I do with any game is modify it, that's why I don't like steam, it makes it less mod friendly. But if you don't intend to modify it or just want to modify it lightly it shouldn't be a issue. However, I can't vouch as only played the version not on steam.

I would take it that you can install it on two PCs from steam, but again I can't vouch as I've never done it. I've only ever played one steam game (SH3). All I know is that you definitely can without.

I believe it is pretty hard for someone to like things like steam. :/ Even without willing to mod the game, or anything else, it bothers me if I must have another program to play this game... It is unnecessary (to anyone except to them).

I will try to find it in my city, I still find it is a better option. Thanks for your help.

I use steam all the time got over 100 games on there I find nothing wrong also the stronghold collection on steam has all the stronghold but stronghold 3 which is a good thing as stronghold 3 had so many issues and it hasn't got kingmaker/skirmish and the multiplayer broken so it hasn't got replay ability like stronghold 2 and legends has

I got the program when it was released on CD.

I bought a bunch of downloaded games from Direct2Drive. But they are gone now and I hate Steam because you have to depend on Steam and then what happens when they go under?

I don't want to have to have them overseeing my gaming life nor having games that require you to jump thru hoops to play them.

Steam/Valve is just the latest way to have a monopoly on games and gather users private information to resell and make even more money for the corporation.

However, it's the way now. They are reported to be worth around 3 billion so I expect that google or facebook or sony will buy them out soon.

That's exactly my view on steam; it's a complete waste of time energy and resources, and is made purely to help the developers and not the end users.

At least if this does happen, there is a small chance it may improve slightly...

Well, speaking of Steam - I do have some feeling that they have achieved what they wanted. Many games are not possible to play if they are on Steam, and if one doesn't own an original copy. It is harder now than before Steam... I mean, I've always believed that one has to own an original copy to play it, but I recently found out I was wrong, and I was really surprised.

Still, they are doing way more than protecting themselves. Maybe I'm paranoid about that at this moment, but I feel really uncomfortable when buying games now, as I have feeling that I am renting them only (if the game is on Steam). Even though you payed the game, you have to obey some rules that had made up, and I cannot do with my game what I want... (of course - I don't mean about distributing the game or something, I'm speaking about some other banal stuff)

Also, there is another thing - now one is able to get the game he wants no matter if the game is popular in his country or not. One doesn't have to search for the game he loves.

What I just wrote could seam a bit confusing - on one hand I defend Steam, and on the other hand, I say what they do is wrong. My feeling are somewhat mixed right now, but I hope this would sum up how I feel right now: it is a nice idea to have a service to get some game that is harder to get in Store, but I don't like Steams ways. For example, I made a Steam account to write some friendly posts their at their discussions, and after some short time I became unable to write in any specific game discussions. What they want from me is to buy a game on Steam, or to link a game I own to Steam. They say how that is because of spamming, but we all know that is not the only way to prevent spam. Besides that, there are some stupid topics at Steam Discussions, and I have noticed that there are some members who start some topics which could offend someone, but who cares - they gave the money.

Also, I must say that I am not so certain if I am right about everything I told about Steam, but that is how I feel.
